In New York, the epicenter of the virus, black people make up only 18% of the state's population but also make up 33% of COVID-19 hospitalizations. In New Mexico, Native Americans make up only 5% of the state's population yet they represent 20% of the state's COVID-19 hospitalizations.
Future Implications: Antibody testing will become more accessible for everyone, meaning being implemented in more areas and costing little to none for those who cannot afford to pay a fee. Also, passing policies that protect minorities and people with low-income. 
Overall Impact: This trend confirms the baseline scenario where decades of disparities in education, housing, jobs and stress levels have contributed to an excess risk of chronic disease based on race, ethnicity and income. With the current pandemic going on, these issues have been recognized and highlighted more than ever. Many states are showing similar patterns of health disparities and income plays a large part alongside racial differences. If policies are passed that protect minorities and people with low-income, illness in high-risk communities can soon be prevented.
